Civic Activities: Enjoyed community involvement, especially hospice help, with her Sorority sisters in Beta Sigma Phi
Hobbies and interests: As an avid reader, she particularly enjoyed historical fiction. She enjoyed travelling and shopping. Alcea went nowhere unless dressed to the nines, which included a never ending assortment of high heels that never left her feet. For a while, she sold Mary Kay cosmetics and jewelry.
Alcea loved spending time in Gilbert Arizona with her daughter Tara, where she basked in the heat that others tried to escape.
She loved to bake sugar cookies, and applesauce pie which would always be ready for anyone who happened to visit.
Nicknamed “Mrs. Clean”, she was constantly scurrying about the house tidying up, which meant don’t even place an unfinished drink down or it got magically whisked away.
If Alcea wasn’t in Richfield, she could be found at her beloved “Cougar Ranch”, the Anderson family property located 5 miles up the mountain from the city of Junction. She made sure all the cabins were spotless, and ready for the next guests with fresh linens and utensils. It was critical that all was ship-shape when it was time to make reunion memories and spend precious moments with family, friends and all who enjoyed the serenity of God’s country.
It’s probably a blessing that Alcea passed peacefully before witnessing the recent cottonwood wildfire that completely destroyed everything. The total devastation would have killed her from shock, sadness and grief.
Thankfully, we all have photographs and experiences to remember Alcea in her element.
Survivors: Children Cindy Slack Peirce of Santa Clara Utah, Mitchel Craig Slack of Midway Utah, Tara Slack of Gilbert Arizona. 8 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild. Brother Robert Anderson of Hurricane Utah.
Preceded in death: Husband Sheril Slack. Siblings Kent Martel Anderson, Betty Rae Anderson, JaNel Anderson, Milton Boyce Anderson, George Boyd Anderson, Sonja Anderson Bailey, Vernon Knudsen Anderson, Sara Vivian Anderson Roper, Joel Randall Anderson.

A memorial will be held on August 22 from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Richfield Senior Center 890 N 300 W, Richfield Utah. Interment will follow at the Junction cemetery.

In lieu of flowers or gifts, we’re sure Alcea would appreciate a donation to the rebuilding fund for the Cougar Ranch.

As per your request we provide you with the following information concerning your property.

Concerning improving your property:
1. Stopping erosion:
a. Some erosion is occurring in the stream bed and banks. This could be arrested by placing cobble rocks on the steep banks and stream bottom.
b. Erosion is halted by keeping a vegetation cover over the soil.
2. Improving ·quantity and quality of water:
a. Organic waste should be kept away from water flows, either surface or sub-surface.

Concerning plant types:
The following could be used for ornamentals:
Brush – wild current, elder berry.
Flowers – wild geraniums, cinquefoil, lupin, larkspur, clover yarrow, Indian paintbrush, penstemon, asters and daisies [note that some ·of these flowers are poisonous to livestock)
These plants along with the ones you have could be planted or transplanted and arranged anywhere except on the hillside in your northwest corner. Transplant seedlings in April and early May before leaves form.

Tree management:
Trees that thrive in your area are:
Ponderosa pine, Dogwood, Birch, Oak Brush, Willow, Oregon Grape, Juniper, and Wild Rose.

Decide which tree type you want. Then,
a. Transplant new seedlings.
b. Clear area around each tree for a 10 ft. radius.
c. Any two trees closer than 5 ft. should have one removed.
d. Thin or eliminate other tree types.
e. Cut all dead trees.
f. Thin the dense overgrowth with stands to provide sunlight where needed for ground plants.

Brush management:
Sagebrush can be eradicated by spraying in the early summer with three guarts of 2-4, D should be mixed with 3-10 gallons of water. Rabbit brush will require mechanical control.

Howdy y’all!!
Happy July…almost! There is a leak in the water system at the pavilion that has been identified and is being worked on to be fixed. However, in the meantime, when you use the pavilion and turn on the water, please turn it back off when you are done using it to avoid it causing more problems and more expenses. Once the leak is fixed we will send an update with the all clear to leave it on. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Howdy all!!
It has come upon us more quickly that we imagined… It’s time for the Semiannual Cougar Ranch Clean up on 5/31/25.
The plan is to locate and remove as many of the dead trees as possible, Starting with ones posing a threat to structures and roadways. If you are able to please bring a chainsaw with you to help with the work. Gloves for those who wish would also be recommended.
For those who are also able to, we will also be cleaning out the three cabins and bathrooms. Dusting, sweeping, washing what needs to be washed, etc.
Lunch will be left up to each family who is participating. Please be sure to bring enough water, gatorades and drinks. The weather so far looks like a high in the low 80s, but likely to feel hotter with being out in the sun.
An early thank you to all who are planning to attend.
Also looking forward to the first weekend of August for the reunion!!

Thank you each for all your help with taking care of this amazing gift that Grandad and Gram left for their prosperity to enjoy. Your sacrifices in helping maintain the Cougar Ranch do not go unnoticed and are greatly appreciated.

Family and Stockholders…
Due to an issue with the water entering the Cougar Ranch property, ALL water to the Cougar Ranch had to be turned off until further notice. So if your plans for this upcoming week or so include going to the Cougar Ranch please be advised that the running water is off at the toilets and all the hydrants as well, and make plans accordingly. The issue is being addressed as quickly as possible and the hope is that the water will be back up and running by this weekend. However, as the poet Robert Burns so aptly recorded, and we all have experienced, “the best laid schemes o’ mice an’ men, oft go awry.”

Dear Family and Shareholders

  Unfortunately the water issue remains unresolved at this time.  The issues are being addressed as soon as possible and we apologize for the inconvenience.  The bathrooms remain functional with manual flushing with water brought from the creek or from the Junction city park.  Drinking water, as usual, should be brought in as the water at the Cougar Ranch is not potable.  We hope to have this issue resolved as soon as possible.  Thanks for your understanding.  Any questions, please feel free to reach out.  My contact info is listed below.  Thanks!!  —
